Day 9: Everyone Starts at Zero, Case Study of Gary Vaynerchuk

Home / 30 Day Video Challenge / Day 9: Everyone Starts at Zero, Case Study of Gary Vaynerchuk

One of my marketing role models is Gary Vanyerchuk. Gary is a thought leader and doer who has been a inspiration for many, including me.

I love sharing Gary’s story because he used video marketing to grow WineLibrary.Tv from a $6million/year business to a $40million/year business.

One reason I love Gary is because he’s a doer. He doesn’t talk about stuff, he does stuff.

Today, Gary is a marketing superstar. He’s been on Conan O’Brien, Larry King and more. He consults huge businesses and he’s written best selling books.

But the reason I bring up Gary today is because of his online video marketing prowess. Most people will watch Gary’s videos and be impressed by the quality and (whether you like him or not) be impressed by how he shares his personality.

Gary wasn’t always like this though. If you watch his first videos (see below), you’ll see he was like the rest of us … not very good. Gary, however, wasn’t worried about being great to start. He was focused on starting with video marketing to be great.

So check out his early videos and compare them to some of his later videos. You’ll see he grew a ton because he kept on producing and kept on improving.

My message to you today is simple. Don’t be overly judgemental of your content at the start. Just commit to producing content regularly and to improving. If you do this, I guarantee you will improve dramatically and your business and brand will be better for it!

HOMEWORK

Watch these videos.

Notice any difference between the two?

Most important to note is how much Gary came into his own and how the quality of his videos improved. This wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t been willing to just start, his commitment to keep going and his desire to improve.
